There are many pristine bays and beaches in Gökçeada where you can swim. It is possible to stay in only some of them.
Since the prevailing wind on the island is from the north, the south coast is generally windless and calm to swim. You will easily notice these bays while driving on the car road that runs along the southern shores. But you can't discover the most virgin without going on dirt roads! It is useful to take an umbrella and water with you while going to virgin bays.
The northern shores are ideal for swimming when the weather turns to the south (blowing from the south) or when there is no wind. But there are very few coves that you can reach from land to swim on the northern shores. The most preferred one is Yıldızkoy, located in the underwater park. This is the most crowded beach of the north with its aquarium-like sea and sheltered structure in the form of a bowl.
Gokceada Aydincik Beach
Aydıncık (Kefaloz) Beach is Gökçeada's most famous beach. 1200 mt. long, golden-colored, with its fine sand, this is the most preferred beach on the island in summer.
There are many accommodation facilities on the beach. All of them have food service from morning to evening. Most of them offer camp-board services and private surfing lessons.
In recent years, especially Bulgarian surfers have discovered Aydıncık Beach, making it a surfing center. İzmir-Alaçatı, which is one of the most important windsurfing venues in the world, is getting too crowded and it directs the surfers to Gökçeada Aydıncık Beach.
Aydıncık Beach is preferred by surfers because of its natural structure and seclusion. Although the beach is on the south coast, it receives the winds blowing from the north (breeze) without any obstacles. Because the north winds blowing from Kefaloz Bay are getting stronger with the corridor effect formed here due to the low Salt Lake and blows south without obstacles. This creates a windy but calm sea, ideal for surfing in Aydıncık. In Lodosta, that is, when the wind blows from the south, the same event takes place from the opposite direction and those who want to surf in the smooth sea head to Kefaloz bay next to Aydıncık.
The number of days suitable for windsurfing is 300 in Gökçeada. The facilities on the beach also serve as a surf club. Bulgarian surfers, in particular, store their gear here throughout the year. Private lessons are offered for beginners. Professionals can also use it to rent or buy materials.
During the summer season, there are minibus services from the beach in the morning and in the evening. 10 km from the center.
Gökçeada Laz Bay
Laz Bay is a small, cute bay on the south coast of Gökçeada. 20 km from the center of Gökçeada by car. is located at a distance. There is a daily facility in the bay. Here you can rent parasol loungers and have a meal.
Keep in mind, no matter how strong the north wind is, it does not affect Laz Bay, the sea is again a milk port.
Gokceada Yuvalı Beach
The facilities of the Ministries of Justice, Health and National Education were established years ago in two beautiful bays called Yuvalı on the southern coast of the island. Employees working in the relevant public offices here take a vacation. As of 2018, only the Ministry of Justice is open but they don't take anyone from outside. You can also benefit from the beach of a resort hotel located in Yuvalı Bay.
Gökçeada Secret Harbor
The Secret Harbor, which you will reach by passing through Uğurlu Village, appears like a surprise when you turn right from the fishing port. This is the last point you can go to on the western end of the island. It is an idyllic bay with a sandy beach that stretches in front of pine trees. Buffet, toilet and shower service is provided by the villagers in the bay. Uğurlu village is very close for shopping.
Gokceada Yildizkoy
Yıldızkoy is almost the only bay where you can swim from the northern shores of the island. Since the prevailing wind on the island is from the north, this place is generally breezy. But if you come across a day when the north wind gets lighter or blows from the south, the sea becomes a milk port in Yıldızkoy.
Yıldızkoy is located in Gökçeada Underwater National Park. This is the only bay of the park where you can swim from the land. It will be a special pleasure to watch the rich underwater by snorkeling in the area where the marine flora and fauna are under protection.
It is possible to reach the bay by car. There is also an old repaired chapel in the bay. There are two facilities in the bay where you can get beach-restaurant service. They also rent umbrellas and sunbeds. In order to enter the stony sea comfortably, a plastic pier is built every summer.
Yıldızkoy has interesting rock formations. It is very enjoyable to lie down on these rocks and sunbathe, then dive into the aquarium-like waters as if entering the pool from the stairs going down to the sea.
If you continue by walking on the pathway that goes up to the right of the bay, you can also see the Blue Bay from the other coves in the underwater park.
Those who want to stay close to Yıldızkoy can choose the camping facility in the bay, the accommodation in Yeni Bademli Village or Kaleköy. You can easily reach the bay by walking from these villages.
Gökçeada Marmaros Beach
Marmaros is one of the rare bays where you can swim on the northern shores of the island. You can reach here from a road that turns right right after passing Dereköy. Recently, the road has been closed to traffic as a precaution against forest fires, but it can be opened at any time, because this is one of the natural beauties of the island.
7 km. long road reaches the sea after passing through pine forests. This is a stony, natural beach, the sea is very clean. There are no settlements around it. Before reaching the beach, Marmaros Waterfall is reached after an hour's walk from a dirt road that is entered on the right. During the winter and spring months, the water of the waterfall increases and it is worth seeing.
Kuzulimanı Beach
Kuzulimanı, where the ferry approaches, has a long and wide beach. The 3-4-day facility here provides sunbeds-umbrellas and café-restaurant services. There is also a municipal toilet and a large parking lot. The beach in the east of the island is closed to the south winds, so the sea is very calm when the southwest is blowing.
